Transponder Keys, Immobilizer Keys, Remote Keys, and Chip Keys

You are here: Home / Transponder Keys, Immobilizer Keys, Remote Keys, and Chip Keys

In 1995, a radio transmitter-receiver kind of key was developed for automotive applications. These keys are called Transponder Keys. Transponder Keys and Remote Keys are commonly being used in late model automotive applications.

A Transponder Key is a radio transmitter-receiver designed as an anti-theft device for automobiles. The Car or Truck has an antenna ring, usually around the ignition area. The antenna ring puts out a signal when the key is inserted into the ignition lock, looks for the companion key, and allows vehicle operation. The transponder key is programmed into the car computer at the factory.

If the vehicle’s computer does not receive the correct key identification response when the key is turned to the on position, the car will not start. This system is called an immobilizer. If a key is lost for this type of vehicle, we can replace it and get you back on the road, quickly and efficiently. We have all the up to the minute equipment our industry offers to professionally replace a lost key for later model vehicles, including those which do not even have keys!

This task can be performed at your location, thus saving the need for towing!

Transponder Keys, Remote Keys, Laser Keys, and  Smart Keys are typically in newer cars and trucks.  Some of the models that commonly have these immobilizers include:
