Today we went to a house and opened a safe where the combination had been lost and no one knew what it was. First we contacted the safe manufacturer and obtain the original safe lock combination because we are signed up with them and we are members of Savta, the Safe & Vault technicians Alliance. We dialed in the combination and it did not open, so we then assumed that the original combination had been changed. Our client wanted into the safe quickly so instead of manipulating the dial to get the combination, we began the process of micro drilling the safe to manipulate the lock to open it and then see what was inside. Our clients, who are the owners of the property, had provided correct identification allowing us to assist them in gaining access to the safe’s contents. Once we got the door open and looked inside it turns out there was absolutely nothing in the safe! It was decided that we will repair the door of the safe and put it back in operation with its new combination.
