Get a receipt once the services rendered. Get proof that you paid for your services in full. Keep the receipt inside a secure place in case there is an issue.

If you can, try searching online for the locksmith you plan on calling. You can find a few review websites on the Internet. When selecting a website with reviews, make sure is not affiliated to any locksmith. Also, check with the BBB prior to hiring your locksmith.

Avoid additional fees by not calling the locksmith in his business hours. The price a locksmith cost can vary widely after hours. The fee can often be double on services you need.

While you may want to get a great deal, you want to avoid a locksmith who charges very little. Sometimes, this may be a sign that the person does not have the qualifications to do the task that you hired him or her to do. Get multiple quotes, get rid of the lowest and highest ones, and try hiring the modest ones.

TIP! Don’t hire locksmiths when you just considered one option. You ought to speak to no less than three locksmiths before deciding.

Look for a locksmith who is active within their communities. It is wise to know that you have a true professional working on the latest industry trends. It also assures you out of money.

Before trusting a locksmith with your keys, ask for a referral list of their customers. Many businesses are glad to give references; you just have to ask. Figure out just how good the locksmith is at his job and also find out what his rates are off-hours and for emergencies.

TIP! Research on the web for the best locksmiths in your area. Lots of folks go to the Internet to report on their personal experiences.

Get references and recommendations before allowing a locksmith in your home. Call all of the references before hiring them. You need the locksmith and a person that you can completely trust.

Google the locksmith’s name when they arrive. Don’t be too embarrassed to do it – protecting yourself means more than just installing additional locks! If something seems fishy, go with another locksmith. Most areas have a number of different locksmiths.

TIP! Never use any locksmith who will charge you for just showing up! This is something that not a lot of locksmiths are going to be able to do, so you should know this person is probably trying to scam you. If you ask them to leave, and won’t go unless you pay them, call the police.

One of the first questions you ask when calling a locksmith is how many years they have ran their business. Make sure they’ve been doing operations from this location the whole time. A quality company has usually been in an area for at least five years of experience would be a good choice.

As soon as your locksmith arrives, ask him for a license and identification. Compare them to ensure they’re the one who holds the license. Some places may not require a license, but the person you hire should have some credentials to present.

TIP! Contact the police department to find out if the company you wish to hire has any complaints against it. You will find the complaints that are on file.

A phone quote won’t necessarily be what you’re charged after the work is done. It’s hard for them to give exact numbers without actually seeing the damage. You should begin to wonder, however, if the actual in-person quote is far more than your initial quote over the phone.

TIP! Look for a locksmith that is available around the clock to handle middle of the night emergencies. You can never tell when you will need the services of a locksmith.

Be sure to check the identification for any locksmith you make an appointment with. A professional locksmith will be in uniform and have ID ready to show you.

Discuss your home’s overall security with your locksmith. Locksmiths will generally know quite a bit when it comes to general home security. They can provide you valuable advice that will increase your security. As a professional, they may even be able to provide some additional services for you.

TIP! Any locksmith you consider engaging should dress professionally and neatly. A person’s dress often says a lot about how professional they truly are.

Sometimes this means that the person is not qualified to do the work correctly. Get quotes and find the one you feel comfortable with.

If a locksmith advertises that they beat any price, call them to find out the details. Getting a copy of the written policy will help you while talking with other locksmiths.

TIP! If you know the locksmiths in your area, check the BBB website to find information about each of their reputation. Look for complaints against the company or individual.

Don’t hire locksmiths when you only consider one. You should call three or more quotes before choosing a locksmith. This will allow you to figure out what the average charge is.

Tags :

Life can be funny at times. Life can bring you good days and then bring other kinds of days. The days made of a roller coaster of problems. But those days don’t have to be that horrible if you know some solutions to the problems that come. In this post we are going to discuss 30 ways you can solve those problems that have to do with home security and being locked out.

Locksmith emergency: I've been locked out of my car

Locksmith emergency: I’ve been locked out of my car

1. Cover all your locks if you’re painting your home. If you get paint in the holes of the locks, it could cause your keys to no longer fit into them. While this does require an extra investment of time, it is certainly worth it.

TIP! Be sure you’re able to research the locksmith of your choice before you hire them for any work. Are they thinking about your best interests? There are scammers out there and people who will make unauthorized duplicates, so be careful.

2. Locked out from your house? Don’t just agree to replace that lock immediately. A good locksmith that knows what they are doing will not need to change the door open without putting on a new lock. Replacing your lock will force you money.

3. Don’t forget to tip! This is certainly the case if you are dealing with an emergency call. A fifteen percent tip is decent for a regular visit, but tip more for after hours work.

4. It is possible to get around additional costs by using a locksmith only during regular business hours. If they come outside business hours, you’ll pay extra. In an emergency you’ll have little choice, of course.

TIP! Check the locksmiths credentials before they enter your home. Next, call them! You surely want the best possible services from someone you know to be trustworthy.

5. Cover your locks before you paint door. It can take time to cover every lock, but that pales in comparison to the time a locksmith will take to change all of the locks.

6. Check your locksmith’s ID. You may even warn them before they arrive that you will be looking for it. A good professional should also be in uniform, but at least make sure an id is involved before you accept services from them.

TIP! Ask a potential locksmith about their experience. Chances are, if they have been around for a while, they are trustworthy.

7. Do not use a locksmith that changes their quote upon arrival. There are too many scammers out there for you to deal with one that is not upfront and honest with you.

8. Don’t hire the first locksmith you speak to. Call a handful of locksmiths before you make a choice. This will give you a wider perspective on what the average rates for services are. You can judge these locksmiths on professionalism and price.

TIP! The World Wide Web is invaluable when it comes to finding a locksmith. A lot of people love to write about their experiences online.

9. Get references before you hire a locksmith in your home. Call the references before you engage in business. You should trust the best quality services and make sure their work is good.

10. You can Google anyone who comes to work for you. There is no need to be embarrasses about it; your main focus is protection and not just lock installations. If you find something about them you don’t like, call the company and ask for someone else to come out.

TIP! Don’t try using locksmiths that charge you for them just appearing where you are. The majority of locksmiths do not operate in this manner, so one who does is likely to be a scammer.

11. One of the first questions you ask a locksmith is how many years they have ran their business has been around. Make sure that they’ve been doing operations from the whole time. A locksmith with more than a lot of experience is a great choice.

12. Make sure to contact locksmiths during business hours. Some locksmiths actually use these hours to charge very exorbitant fees. Ask for quotes from multiple locksmiths to avoid getting overcharged.

TIP! If there is a problem with the locksmith company you use, quickly address the issue. If you fail to do so, they may not fix the issue for free.

13. Be sure to check the identification for any locksmith you make an appointment with. A good locksmith will gladly show his credentials before beginning to work on your lock.

14. Locate locksmiths who have been running their business for a while. If they’ve just set up shop, figure out where they have worked in the past and see if you can get references. Look up their name and prior location on the Internet to see if they have reviews.

15. Find a good locksmith before you really need one. Waiting for an emergency situation has occurred means not having very many choices available to you. You could also risk someone who is less than reputable having the keys to all your valuables.

16. Identify the type of service you will require prior to calling a locksmith. Did you leave your keys in your car? Are your keys missing completely? If your keys have been stolen, the locksmith will need to either install new locks or rekey the existing locks. THis is a much bigger issue than simply getting you inside your locked vehicle.

TIP! You want to get an estimate over the phone, but when the locksmith shows up, it may be more work than they anticipated. It is difficult for anyone to give you the exact figure without seeing the damage.

17. Find out what length of experience your locksmith has been in business. If they have been in business for at least 5 years, the chances are that they will be great at what they do and people you can trust. While experience does not equal trustworthiness, very little experience is a sign that you should be cautious.

18. Look for a locksmith who offers services in emergencies. You can get locked out at the most inopportune times, so you need someone that can help you in all situations. Speak with the locksmith to see what they charge for these kinds of services. It will cost more, so it is better to find out now rather than be surprised later.

TIP! Ask your locksmith about the overall security of your home. Locksmiths are great at what they do, and that’s because they know a lot about keeping a home secure.

19. Ask your locksmith for references of previous customers. Most businesses will be happy to give you references, and it is important to actually call the referred customers.

20. When asking for quotes, be sure to ask what the cost would be if the worst case scenario comes to be. A good locksmith is able to anticipate problems, so they will be able to quote you a price range, rather than a set price.

TIP! Avoid hiring a locksmith without proof of insurance. Should something happen to your house or vehicle in the process of installing new locks, the locksmith’s insurance will be responsible for reparations.

21. Be wary of any locksmith who tells you that it is necessary to replace your lock immediately.

22. Pick a locksmith who specializes in what you need done. If they are a commercial locksmith, they may not be able to unlock your car. Sometimes, one may be better than the other.

TIP! When looking to hire a locksmith, look at how they are dressed. How someone dresses can often be a good indicator of how professional you can expect their services to be.

23. Do not put yourself in a vulnerable situation when a locksmith comes to your abode to someone who has the ability to pick locks. If you truly feel they aren’t on the up and up, follow your instincts. You should always arrange the first meeting at their business before allowing them know where you live.

24. Research locksmiths before you need one. If you wait until you need one, you are more likely to jump at the first one in the phone book. You should instead know what trusted locksmith you should call before that type of thing happens.

TIP! Read reviews of any locksmith you’re thinking about hiring. While these reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, a plethora of negative reviews are a likely sign that the locksmith isn’t one you should be hiring.

25. If you are unhappy with the service, let the company know immediately. If you wait too long, you might make your complaint too late. If you don’t get the things you want, turn to the consumer protection agency in your area.

26. Think about using locksmiths for a variety of things. You can ask them to look at the security you currently have to see if it’s good or ask them to install a safe. Locksmiths can help ensure that your home is secure.

27. Contact your Better Business Bureau and the police department to find out if the locksmith doesn’t have any complaints against it. You will be able to quickly ascertain if the complaints that are on file. Do not select a locksmith who has complaints against him.

28. It’s common for people to tip their locksmith when they do a good job, so have some extra money for that work. This is certainly the case if he responded to an emergency. A general visit deserves 15%, but 20 percent is better for after-hours calls.

29. Identify the type of service you have been locked out. Have you left your keys locked in your car? This is a much different than having your keys stolen.

30. Don’t hire a locksmith unless you don’t need one; they can be expensive. You can do it for you.

Rekey a lock without existing keys

Tags :

Today I was called upon to rekey a lock that had no existing key. The way to do this Schlage lock is to first pick the lock to the right or left, so the cylinder retainer can be depressed, and the lock cylinder and knob can be removed from the lock body. The lock cylinder can be removed from the knob, then taken apart, rekeyed to a new key, and reassembled. alcatrazlock.com

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Key Repair

Tags :

This is a case where call came in as a key broken off in the ignition of a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van. With the key broken off halfway into the ignition the van could not be started it couldn’t be driven and it couldn’t be moved. I arrived and immediately set to looking into the ignition with some specialty locksmith tools and began to remove the broken part of the key from the ignition.

The broken portion of the key eventually came out of the ignition with some prying and some gentle manipulation of the ignition lock cylinder. No damage was done to the ignition during the extraction process so then I said about making a new replacement key blade.

The remote portion that also has the transponder chip in it was in good shape so all we need to do here was removed the broken part of the keyblade from the remote head key then cut our own new remote head key blade modify it and insert it into the remote head switchblade portion of the key.

Once the new key blade was properly installed, the Sprinter started and ran perfedtly, and the same key also locked and unlocked the doors.   www.alcatrazlock.com 602 677-5045

Trimph Speed Triple Motorcycle key replacement

Tags :

I was called out to make a new replacement motorcycle key for this Triumph Speed Triple.

The motorcycle was the only item left in the old house. The owner had moved everything to the new house, but somehow the Triumph key, and the spare key had become lost in the move.

There are a few safe and proper locksmith methods to make a new key for a motorcycle. One of them is to simply have the key code for motorcycle and cut a blank key to with a key code machine to match that code and have it work the motorcycle. Another method is to pick the gas cap lock and remove it, take the lock completely apart, decode the wafer tumblers in the lock and make a key to that lock, and then use a progression chart to fabricate the missing keys in the series that will work the ignition and the seat lock for the motorcycle. Another method, although less practical in today’s modern times, is to use a key blank and hand fit it to the motorcycle via a method called “impressioning,” where one puts a key blank in the lock, moves it around in the lock, and looks for little marks made by the individual wafer tumblers of the lock. This method goes back a hundred years or more but it’s sometimes not as effective to use in modern motorcycle locks because the wafer tumblers are small and designed to bend if someone tries to put a key blank in and putthe turning pressure on it needed to impression. A much better key fitting, or key making method is to “read” the lock, using eyesight or a scope to look at the wafer tumblers in a lock and make an estimate of what the wafer measurements are. This was the method I ended up using to make the key.
